How to choose a second-hand washing machine in Abu Dhabi: capacity, front vs top load, hard water and the checks that matter.
Pick the right capacity
A single person or couple is fine with 6–7kg. Families of four should look at 8–9kg, and larger households or those washing bedding often should go for 10kg or more. Bigger drums also wash more gently because clothes have room to move.
Front load or top load?
Front loaders use less water and spin faster, so clothes dry quicker in Abu Dhabi's humidity. Top loaders are easier on the back and often cheaper second-hand. Your space and budget decide.
Hard water and descaling
Abu Dhabi tap water can leave scale. Run a monthly hot cycle with a descaler, and clean the detergent drawer and door seal to prevent smells.
What to test before paying
Ask for a short demonstration: fill, wash, drain and spin. Listen for grinding from bearings and watch for leaks under the machine. Check the door locks and the display shows no error codes.
